There are nearly 6,000 level crossings on the rail network across England, Wales and Scotland.

Unfortunately, there are countless near-misses and fatalities every single year between trains and level crossing users. That’s why we want to make sure all level crossing users know how to use level crossings safely.

People are familiar with level crossings that they use regularly, and this familiarity can lead to over-confidence, making them underestimate the dangers. People also allow themselves to be distracted at the moment when they should be paying attention to their surroundings, increasing the risk of unsafe behaviour.
